Reach for the Stars

“Next,” the teacher said.

Trey walked forward. “Hey teach,” he said.

The teacher looked at him, waiting, and Trey sighed. He reached up. “Higher,” the teacher said. Trey pushed higher with his arm. “Higher,” the teacher said again. Trey stretched another few centimetres. “Higher,” the teacher said once more. Trey pushed himself up on the tips of his toes, stretched to his limit.

“Thank you,” the teacher said, as he noted where Trey had reached. “Next.”

Trina stepped forward and said, “Hey teach.” She looked nervous, being half a head shorter than Trey.

“Go ahead,” the teacher said to her, and Trina lifted her arms.
