New Year’s Day

The New Year dawned.

The sun rose, the winter birds chirped, and the new fallen snow on the ground made for a beautiful painting.

Emory opened his eyes, glared at the open curtains, and rolled over. He went back to sleep for another six hours, not wanting to face the cruel world drilling its way into his head.
